Sad day today.

A good man died today. Why is it that the good die young and the bastards of society live on? This man did many good things. His heart was good. He had a bad temper (according to his son) but most of the time I saw him, I never saw it. I had the opportunity to work with him. Albeit for less than a year, I never saw his bad side. Laid back, easy going. This man loved his bikes. So much, that he'll even watch his wife take a cab to church whilst he's on his bike. His wife hated bikes. Whenever I walked into church, the regulars would be outside smoking. He'd be there with them, going like a chimney. He helped out in the Sunday Canteen. He fried the best damn chicken wings. This man was also a maritime man, he had tattoos of a sea going man. He worked in the maritime industry till he retired then worked part time in a bowling alley, that's when i worked with him. An elderly man that was young at heart. Couldn't just retire quietly, had to be doing something.

Why am I writing this, cos he reminds me of my father. They were friends. Together when the church was put up. The old guard so to speak. My father died some 14yrs ago. This man had so many similarities to my own father.

Good Bye, Uncle Con Fletcher. We'll miss you.
